Lush Skin and Body first opened it's doors in May of 2017. The owner, Aneke van Schalkwyk, completed her studies in Somatology with distinction at the Isa Carstens Academy of Health and Skincare at the end of 2017 while working in the salon part time. "I aim to provide client's with the best treatments and experience at an affordable price. I am extremely focused on hygiene in the salon while having my clients be as comfortable as possible. It is important to me that clients always know they get great value for money and have an incredible experience. Through continued education I am able to provide clients with the latest treatments, products, advice and so much more. I studied a full time 3 year Diploma in Somatology because the human body, skin and the impact of both internal and external factors on the body fascinates me. The body works as a whole - and when one tiny little piece isn't functioning properly one will see it manifest somewhere else, you just need to know where to look. Having opened my own salon and dealing with my clients gives me the greatest pleasure. I get to live my passion and my dream every day!"

What is Somatology?

Somatology is defined as the study or science of the human body as a branch of anthropology. This also includes the study of material substances, as in physics, chemistry, biology, botany which are under the general heading of physicalism. (Wikipedia).

"At the end of my 3 years of studies, I completed my CIDESCO international examination (both theory and practical) which allows me to practice internationally, and acknowledges that I have the necessary skills and abilities to do so. I also signed the code of ethics and pledged the oath.

I am registered with SAAHSP, which sets strict rules and regulations in relation to therapy, continued training and education, scopes of practice as well as maintaining a constant level of ethics amongst various other aspects."
